We caught up with actor Max Jenkins at the HBO premiere of High Maintenance earlier this week and picked his mind about male nudity on HBO, the evolution of his character, and whether or not Max is actually looking for a true connection.
It’s the best part I’ve ever played in my life.” – #HMonHBO /mMbHCiDtA6Īs he vacillates between being in and out of control, Max ends up in all sorts of interesting situations. The range of raw, real, and often anguished feeling that Jenkins delivers in this episode is nothing short of breathtaking. He ditches Lainey at a party to have hot sex with a rando, starts going to AA meetings in secret, and then, when he’s been outed as a liar by Lainey, he goes on an impromptu meth bender. While Lainey gets her kicks in (literally), the vignette mostly focuses on Max as he indulges in various maladaptive behaviors. This new installment gives both Max and Lainey a deeper sense of nuanced humanity. They almost border on caricatures until the very last beat of the closing scene. In a previous High Maintenance vignette entitled Olivia, they berate The Guy (Ben Sinclair), waste his time, and try to steal his stash. These two frenemies are the stuff of nightmares.
